In March 2015, emergency operator Constance Hollinger received an alarming call from a pre-teen victim, a 12-year-old girl who had reportedly been violated by a man more than five times her age.

Hollinger, however, was later suspended for five days without pay due to her inappropriate handling of the emergency call, displayed by her brusque and unprofessional demeanor.
This incident in Cleveland was not Hollinger's first disciplinary issue. Previously, she had been suspended for eight days following her role in the unfortunate Tamir Rice case in 2014. Rice, a 12-year-old boy, was tragically shot by police officers after Hollinger had failed to relay vital information that he was holding a toy gun, ultimately costing him his life.
Despite answering to allegations of gross negligence during her internal disciplinary hearing for the call in March 2015, Hollinger was found guilty and served her suspension. The incident continues to serve as a dark mark on her record, remaining in her personnel file for three years.

Nonetheless, it's important to note that not all emergency dispatchers behave in such a distressing manner. While Hollinger's behavior in the aforementioned calls was undoubtedly inappropriate, many others carry out their duties responsibly, demonstrating empathy and the much-needed seriousness that such a role demands.
