The incident unfolded around 10 pm when the tranquility of the family home was shattered by the intrusion of two armed men. The eight-year-old girl, staying calm under pressure, managed to hide and make a life-saving call to 911, alerting authorities to the imminent danger her family faced.
The dispatcher on the other end of the line received a frantic call, revealing that two armed men had invaded the home, pointing guns at the girl’s mother and two siblings. The situation escalated as the intruders chased the 14-year-old sister back inside after a routine walk with the family dog. The armed men then forced the sister, her 12-year-old brother, and their mother into an upstairs bedroom.
The young caller, however, remained composed and concealed herself in the kitchen pantry, from where she dialed 911, initiating a response that would save lives. The prompt arrival of the police led to the surrender of the intruders, identified as 19-year-olds Kendall Townes and Frederick Dorsey.
Both men faced charges of robbery, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, and receiving a stolen firearm. The victims, who had no prior connection to the perpetrators, were puzzled about why their home had been targeted. Fortunately, the men were apprehended before inflicting harm on the family.

Detective Donnie Shroud of the Louisville Metro Police Department later commended the young girl’s actions, stating, “She did save her family’s life. In my opinion, I think she did an outstanding job.” The heroic eight-year-old, whose name remains undisclosed, opened the door for patrol officers, ensuring a swift response that brought the ordeal to an end without any harm to the victims. This tale stands as a testament to the bravery that can emerge even from the youngest members of a community when faced with adversity.
