In the late summer of 2015, a 12-year-old girl from Auburn, Massachusetts, showcased remarkable courage and quick thinking during a harrowing encounter when an intruder attempted to break into her home. The young girl’s swift decision-making not only ensured her safety but also played a crucial role in the subsequent arrest of the suspect.

As the man persistently tried to gain entry into her home, the brave girl sought refuge in her closet while dialing 9-1-1 for assistance. Simultaneously, she utilized her cell phone to record videos, providing crucial evidence for law enforcement.
In the recorded call, the girl calmly and coherently described the intruder, detailing his attire and actions. The dispatcher, impressed by the girl’s clear communication, efficiently organized a response. Within a mere two minutes of the call, police officers were on the scene.
The suspect, identified as 53-year-old Clinton Joyce, was swiftly apprehended not far from the girl’s residence. Joyce initially claimed to be in the area seeking water, but investigations later revealed his connection to multiple attempted housebreaks in Grafton.
Joyce pleaded guilty to several charges, including attempting to commit a crime, possession of burglary tools, breaking and entering, larceny, and receiving stolen property. As a consequence, he received a prison sentence ranging from six to eight years for breaking and entering and possession of burglary tools, with an additional four to five years for the remaining charges. Notably, the sentences would run concurrently.
